About

Story Of Books is a project that began life as a Twitter hashtag for Sojournposse Purpose’s London Design Festival 2011 event, “Whatever is to become of books?”.

The event, held on 17 September 2011 at University College London, supported by the Department of Anthropology, addresses an issue with regards to the future of books as the placeholder of ideas.

What would happen to storytelling now? Are we ready for a life without books?

The event saw speakers from Design, Publishing, Multimedia and Digital Anthropology discussing the change in traditional publishing platforms and its effect on the labour landscape. It also addressed the issue of the shift in narrative in design, literature and journalism, from traditional storytelling to digital storytelling, and how this changes the way consumers ‘memorise’ and document information.

Backed by the Department of Anthropology, this event was held in support of the Anthropology programmes MSc Digital Anthropology, MA Material & Visual Culture and MA Culture, Materials & Design – all of which were developed by the Material Culture division to examine group behaviours around artifacts, including digital applications.

Sojournposse Purpose

Sojournposse Purpose is a creative engagement agency using design, innovation, storytelling and photography to influence social change.

We collaborate with organisations to communicate their Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Interest values. Our method is to combine creative strategy, community conversation and multimedia, informed by digital anthropology, to devise effective outreach programmes.

Sojournposse Collective

Sojournposse was conceived in 2006 by a group of editors from design, photography and journalism backgrounds to discuss storytelling that inspires. Our social engagement project began at The London Design Festival 2009, where we hosted an annual seminar The Inspiration Room, to support and introduce the latest storytelling technology and talents.
